About
Katherine Pfeiffer was born and raised in Alaska’s mighty Interior, the unceded indigenous land of the Athabaskans, also known as the City of Fairbanks, until she was 17. Her mom and sister moved to Oregon in 1980 after the passing of her dad. In 2012, after 32-years of living in Oregon, she checked off an item on her “Bucket List”—doing a campaign in her home state.
Day after that election, she decided it was time to pull up the stakes from Oregon and move back home to Alaska settling in the ancestral lands of the Dena’ina, also known as Anchorage.
Having worked in political life her entire adult life, she has worked in 17 states, leaving her imprint across the landscape on a variety of non-profit policy issue-based organizations, electoral and legislative consumer issues. Those efforts include statewide and local ballot measures and candidate races--most predominantly in the arena of health care, Alaska’s oil and gas tax ballot measures, and defeating anti-worker ballot measures and legislative issues.
Having spent the last decade in Alaska, Katherine worked as the first development director for Alaska Democrats, managed a congressional race, senior staff for a US Senate race, State Director for Mayor Mike Bloomberg’s run for president, numerous legislative campaigns that have included unseating of the Alaska Senate President, Pete Kelly. Additionally, she loves getting her hands very dirty in down ticket local races—like school board.
Her specialty is strategic on the ground field tactics and strategic communications that include extensive precinct targeting, earned and paid media, social media, direct mail, and public involvement activities. In addition, her experience includes working with both “challenging” and “delightful” steering committees and kitchen cabinet volunteers to direct challenging races that were slated “to lose” and come out on election night with a win.
Katherine has written and implemented numerous detailed plans for voter contact activities including event management, paid and earned media, direct mail, mass text communications and grassroots outreach for ballot measure and candidate campaigns at the statewide and local level.
In this arena, her skills are second to none when it comes to developing creative tactics to implement an overall campaign strategy—even when the campaign is pinching pennies to make copper wire.
Katherine is a graduate of Portland State University with a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies with emphasis in Political Science, US Cultural History and Women Studies. She serves on the executive committee of the Alaska Democratic Party holding the office of executive secretary, secretary of Anchorage Democrats, co-chair of the Alaska Democrats climate caucus and serves on the finance committee. She is a mediocre ebike rider, a knitter, a “pretty-rad” Auntie and has a fabulous balcony garden.
